Your first session
A plain account of the first hour, for both of you.
Before you come
You choose the office or video. Intake forms are on the practice's own secure portal, linked from your confirmation. You do not need to prepare anything, and you do not need to agree on why you are coming.
In the room
Both of you come. We talk about what each of you wants and how the pattern shows up at home. You can ask me anything about how I work, my training and the limits of confidentiality.
What this is not
It is not an exam, a test or a trial, and nobody hands you a checklist. Nobody is asked to say everything in one visit, or to decide who is at fault.
Length and pace
A couples session runs about 80 minutes. We decide together how often to meet and how to know whether the work is useful.
How it is paid
Fees are given in writing before you start. The details are on the How fees work page.
How fees workWhen you leave
You leave with a sense of direction and a time for the next visit if you want one. If I am not the right fit, I say so and suggest where to look.
Three questions about a first visit
Do we have to say yes to continue?
No. You can decide together, after the first session, whether to keep going.
Can we bring someone with us?
This practice sees couples, with both partners in the room. A support person can wait in the lobby.
What if one of us feels worse after a session?
It can be tiring to talk about hard things. Tell me at the next visit. If you are in crisis, call or text 988, any time, or call 911 in an emergency.
